Graphic depicting Alberta Pension Plan Meeting discussing CPP Sustainability and Unfunded Liabilities

January 30, 2024

Greetings, dear Albertans! I’m thrilled to share insights from a recent, groundbreaking discussion on our financial futures, especially regarding retirement security and collective prosperity. Before diving deeper, I warmly encourage you to view our detailed video below, where we unravel the complexities of pension planning and illuminate the way forward for Alberta.

Hosted by the Alberta Prosperity Project, our inaugural Alberta Pension Plan meeting was a resounding success. With open minds and sharp inquiries, participants engaged in a dialogue that was both enlightening and transformative. Alongside Tanner Indy and Vicky Bayford, I had the honor of guiding this conversation, leaving our audience more informed, reassured, and inspired about our shared vision.

A significant focus of our discussion was the sustainability and security of the Canada Pension Plan (CPP)—a subject often misunderstood and overlooked. Despite the comfort of familiarity, the CPP’s financial shortcomings, as candidly admitted by the CPP Investment Board, highlight an urgent need for reevaluation. With billions in unfunded liabilities, the picture is clearer than ever: change is not just necessary; it’s imperative.

Contrary to popular belief, the CPP does not hold a top spot in the global pension rankings. Reports by the CFA Institute and Mercer reveal it standing 12th out of 47, challenging the myth of its unbeatable status. This positions Alberta at a crossroads, urging us to consider a bold, self-reliant path forward.

Alberta’s vibrant economy and youthful demographics position us uniquely to pioneer an independent pension scheme. By embracing the Alberta Pension Plan, we can circumvent the pitfalls of the CPP, crafting a system that’s both fully funded and reflective of our ambitions.

As we stand at this critical junction, it’s essential to question the norms and advocate for a solution that aligns with our values and goals. Why should we settle for a system that does not fully serve our interests or secure our futures? The Alberta Pension Plan represents an opportunity to take charge of our financial destiny, ensuring a prosperous legacy for generations to come.

In closing, I urge you to engage with our video presentation, enrich your understanding, and join the movement towards establishing the Alberta Pension Plan. Together, we can forge a path to a future filled with financial stability and success.

God bless, and let’s embark on this journey to a promising future.
